Preparing for Marriage during the Covid Crisis

Based on the advice from of the Irish Bishops and Dublin Diocese, we do not normally propose home-study pre-marriage courses. But in dire straits, usual Criteria won't apply, e.g. working abroad or during the COVID-19 crisis.

If an online pre-marriage course is the only means available, your priest will probably accept it. As an example, see Course Notes and Questionnaire (& show them to your priest). Then you can read more widely e.g.:

  • Lehmann: 10 Signs For Marriage

  • P.McCarthy: Faith in Our Marriage.

  • R. Pace: Marriage Readiness

  • J. Gottman: Couple Questions

  • J. Gottman: Making Marriage Work

You can ask our office for info on pre-marriage courses.

Group Courses

Pre-marriage courses, in the bishops' Criteria for Courses (2.7) should:

"involve a minimum of nine facilitated hours of client contact and be multi-sessional. This allows couples a period of reflection between sessions ... best practice in adult education."

For as long as such Group Courses are cancelled, you can also ask your parish or Accord about alternatives
